Second Skin or Derm Shield is a great way to protect your fresh tattoo, reduce scabbing, and promote faster healing. Follow this simple step-by-step guide to ensure proper application and safe removal.

Application Instructions
1. Prepare the Area
Before applying the Derm Shield, make sure your tattoo and the surrounding skin are clean and dry.
✔️ Gently wash the tattoo with unscented soap and lukewarm water.
✔️ Pat it completely dry using a clean paper towel.
✔️ Ensure there is no soap, lotion, or residue on the skin.
2. Cut the Derm Shield
For best results, cut the Derm Shield so it extends 1-2 inches beyond your tattoo. This extra margin helps keep the edges from peeling up too soon.
3. Apply the Derm Shield
✔️ Carefully peel off the backing to expose the adhesive side.
✔️ Position it over the tattoo, ensuring full coverage.
✔️ Place the adhesive side down onto the skin.
4. Smooth and Secure
✔️ Start from the center of the tattoo and gently press outward.
✔️ Use light, even pressure to smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles.
5. Remove the Protective Layer
✔️ Once the Derm Shield is secure, peel off the top protective layer (this will have printed crosses or orange arrows).
✔️ What remains is a thin, transparent barrier protecting your tattoo.
Removal Instructions
When it's time to take off your Derm Shield, follow these steps to ensure a smooth and painless removal.
Timing
✔️ The Derm Shield bandage typically stays on for 4-7 days, or as directed by your tattoo artist.
Preparation
✔️ Get in the shower and allow warm water to run over the bandage. This helps loosen the adhesive.
Peeling
✔️ Find an edge of the bandage and gently pull it back over itself—not upwards.
✔️ Work slowly and carefully, peeling bit by bit to avoid irritation or pulling on the tattoo.
After Removal
✔️ Wash the tattoo with unscented soap and warm water.
✔️ Pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
✔️ Apply unscented lotion for the remainder of the healing process.
Important Notes
⚠️ If you experience irritation or an allergic reaction, discontinue use and consult a physician.
⚠️ Do not apply Derm Shield to infected wounds.
⚠️ Some people may find the adhesive harder to remove—if it’s stuck, try using coconut or olive oil around the edges to help loosen it.
By following these easy steps, you can ensure your tattoo heals cleanly, safely, and beautifully!
